Why Dynamic DNS for Home Security?

Most home or small business users are issued a dynamic IP that by nature can change on a monthly, weekly or even daily cadence. Changing IP’s aren’t bothersome to most basic internet users, however if you are a user looking to set-up a home or business monitoring tool, such as a security camera, proper and efficient monitoring quickly becomes increasing less reliable and more complicated.
By using Dyn’s DDNS along with your IP camera you no longer have to worry about the challenge of managing and monitoring these IP’s. DDNS keeps tracks and updates the ip addresses for your devices so you don’t have to, so you can remotely monitor activity in your home.

Quick Setup Guide

  1. Install Camera
  • The first step is to set up the camera or webcam itself. You may have a professional install the device, or you may do it yourself; in either case, you need to be able to view it locally before visitors can reach it over the Internet. Your installer or camera manufacturer is responsible for providing support for camera installation or configuration.

Once the device is powered up and connected to your router, it should be accessible from any other machine in the network at its internal IP address (usually 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x). Once you can access the device from within the same network, you can proceed to configuring the network for remote viewing.
